Clone Wars For All

The Clone Wars cartoon series has continued its run recently. It seems to have got a great reception, as did the first batch of episodes. Personally I can't give you an opinion because I haven't seen them. I have been denied the ability to view them and quite frankly I think that it is shocking.
I haven't seen them for a couple of reasons. Firstly I don't get the Cartoon Network on which the series is broadcast, In the UK the Cartoon Network is only available via cable or Satellite and I have neither. This is not unsual for the UK, although the percentage of digital TV viewers is growing the amount of cable and satellite viewers is still relatively small. And no, the cartoon network is not available as a digital channel.

Never fear I thought, the interweb is here! Our saviour, the source of all knowledge and media. So I traveresed my way to the Star Wars web site and prepared to download a Clone Wars episode. The first thing I saw was a Hyperspace emblazoned picture stating that the super large extended version of the series was availble to download for Hyperspace members. I'm not a Hyperspace member as I don't fancy paying to just read the Star Wars website (whether this is wise is of course debatable). So instead I tried to download the standard, small episode. To my shock the download was forbidden. Only US visitors can download the free version, the rest of the world has to pay. Personally I'm shocked at such discrimination. I guess that they're using an IP range to determin the country and I'm guessing that maybe this could be circumvented (anyone?) but it shouldn't have to be. And now the older episodes are archived purely for Hyperspace members! What is it with Lucasfilm? Do they want fans or do they just want money?

So right here, right now, I begin the Clone Wars For All campaign. Please join me.

I see your point though you'd think alienating his foreign fans wouldn't be high on the Lucas list of "clever stuff to do".
Then again I didn't expect "Greedo should shoot first" would be high on that list and look what happened.
Suppose you could always pick them up through less official means on a P2P service....
