Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 - Episode 1 - "33"

-

Full details of the episode (that's SPOILERS!) can be found on the Sky One episode guide

The episode starts with a super quick recap of the mini-series, which is fine but I'd recommend watching it first before this episode. Then we are dropped into the midst of a never ending day, the fleet is being harried by the Cylons who arrive 33 minutes after every FTL jump. It's been happening for 2 days straight and the crew are exhausted, What can they do to shake them off?

The style of the episode felt quite "24", shaky camera work, character based stories, an intense feeling of pressure as the clock ticked on. The apocalyptic feel of the mini-series is maintained with the president keeping a running total of the human race on a whiteboard (I'm sure that will look quaint in a few years time). The story also has a nice focus of the moral dillemmas involved with their survival. Do the needs of the many really outweigh the needs of the few? Oh and the swarms of Cylon fighters continue to be impressively scary.

All in all I enjoyed it a lot and it definitely left me wanting more.

Favourite character so far? Gaius Baltar and his ever present hallucination(?) of Cylon Number Six.

Weirdest lookalike? Does anyone else think that Jamie Bamber (Apollo) looks like Tim Henman? Go Tiger Tim!
