Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 - Episode 12 - "Kobol's Last Gleaming: Part 1"

-

Full details of the episode (that's SPOILERS!) can be found on the Sky One Battlestar Galactica episode guide

The Galactica finds a habitable planet and proceeds to investigate. Spoilers ahead...

The episode starts with a stunning pre-titles sequence. It cuts between a handful of characters, slowly revealing plots, constant building music, jump cuts, hand shaky cam corder shooting, over exposed blurryness, gritty. Brilliant.

So a strand of the series plot becomes a bit clearer. The Galactica has found Kobol, the origin of man. And it has all happened before. A bit of a Science Fiction cliche perhaps? Lets just call it a riff, because so far it has been awesomely executed. I like it anyway, I'm a sucker for a SF prophecy. So Laura is their savior, their Neo. So what is Baltar's role?

Just when we thoug the relationships had been sorted out and everybody was happy again, this episode sook it all up. Apollo and Starbuck are all screwed up again. Adama and Apollo are okay despite hitting each other a lot. Baltar....well Baltar is going crazy and I love it! Somehow Number Six is even more scary just watching Baltar get screwed up (err...literally!), but we still don't know what she is. A great episode for Baltar and Six though.

Oh and we got to see a Cylon Battlestar for a brief moment again, looking pretty cool amidst a swarm of cylon raiders.

Helo got a little bit of action, despite knowing that Sharron is a cylon. But can you see where those two are going to end up? Hitching a lift on a certain Cylon raider perhaps...

And that's how it ends, Starbuck jumping out of there and me gagging for next weeks episode. Wonderful.
