Doctor Who - Boomtown

The TARDIS returns to Cardiff to park on the rift and recharge it's batteries(!)

First of all, since when did the TARDIS have to recharge itself? Oh well, good plot device for returning to Cardiff, wherethey closed the rift in Victorian times.

I wasn't too pleased when I saw that the Slythene were involved again, because I thought that was a weak couple of episodes. However in the end I liked the episode which actually had some nice character development.

I liked the extra dimension that Jack added, a trio of time travellers again (as there has been so many times in the past). And then Micky arrived (presumably hotfooting it from London after Rose called) to add an extra fallguy to the preceedings.

The plot itself was quite thin, the Slythene trying to escape but it provided a nice dilemma....do you return a being to their home planet if they are going to be executed? I particularily liked the dinner that the Doctor and the Slythene had. Very amusing.

I felt slightly sorry for Micky, once again rejected by Rose at the end. But how could he compete with time travelling?

The greatest "oooh" factor for me was the reference to "Bad Wolf". There's been lots of net speculation about all of this, which I haven't read, but it must mean that it is something big.

And then I actually watched the trailer for next week....and jumped up and down with excitement.
