Battlestar Galactica 202 - Valley of Darkness

-

The crew of the Battlestar Galactica fight a Cylon boarding party.

SPOILERS AHEAD....

Now that is more like it!

The first thing that struck me about this episode was that the fast forward preview at the start of the episode has gone. This is a good thing because I always used to shut my eyes through it. I hate watching previews like that, I just want to see it, and thank you they've done that.

This episode was close to perfect. It had loads of action without overloading everything into short scenes (like the last episode), this in turn gave the characters time to develop and actually do something.

Starbuck is a much better companion to Helo on Caprica than the whiney Sharron. I loved the scenes where she returned to her old apartment; the music, the paintings, the cigar, great stuff.

I also enjoyed seeing the Cylons in action, foot soldier war in a spaceship, nice. What seemed a bit weird is that the Cylons have this big plan, yet they still were quite happy to try and take out the Galactica. Is this because the important people weren't on it? ie. Baltar.

Baltar. Ah Baltar. This episode he was given time to be loopy loopy crazy, which is what he does best. Interestingly grim dream sequence about the baby being drowned. Oh and Number Six was wearing a tight white dress, just the thing you normally wear in a forest full of skulls. The whole "this has happened before" circular evolution hints from Number Six are great, I'm a sucker for that stuff, post apocalyptic-rebuilding humainty-Planet of the Apes type stuff. Very cool.

The scenes with the Chief and that dead bloke were good too. Sorry dead bloke, you weren't in it long enough for me to learn your name.

And in the end we are not much further along the plot than before, just a few little hints here and there, but some wonderful moments of tv on the way....
