SciFiction to close

SciFiction, the highly successful fiction portion of SciFi.com is to cease publishing fiction at the end of 2005. Ellen Datlow has published a statement. SciFiction has won 10 major awards, including three Hugo Awards, four Nebula Awards and a World Fantasy Award.

A real shame that it's closing.

The site also says...

"As SCIFI.COM gears up to expand with exciting new ventures utilizing the newest technology..."

If it involves texting stuff to mobile phones I'll scream.

However Ellen responds to some comments on her Nightshade forum and says

"There really are no special reasons other than the obvious. It didn't bring in money. No nefarious reasons."
