Battlestar Galactica 217 - The Captains Hand

- Post a Comment

The third commander of Pegasus since they arrived gets into trouble.

SPOILER AHEAD

Looks like the position of Commander of the Pegasus is a bit cursed! Engineer Garner tries his hand at playing commander, and he's not very good. First thing that hit me was the month long skip in the timeline. Is this the first time they've done this? I'd love to see a timeline graphic with the episodes on if anyone has one.

So Apollo is shagging Dee now and Starbuck is obviously screwed up about it. Well, actually she just seems a bit screwed up full stop. I found myself liking Apollo a lot this episode and disliking Starbuck.

Garner was rubbish. Since when did an engineer who plays it by the book disobey an Admiral's direct orders? Not very clever. I liked the space battle. Is that the first time we've seen three Basestars? Lot's of shaky camera explosion stuff. And Apollo was pretty good in control of the bridge or er... con whatever they call it.

Meanwhile yet another abortion story. Yawn. Interesting how they talk about repopulating the fleet though. You would have thought that incentives for childbirth would have gone down better than making abortion illegal. Not very clever again. I guess it's all in the name of the plot, but at the moment the illogical turns are getting on my nerves a bit, especially as they are creating "controversial" plotlines. I just wish they'd stop trying so hard.

Baltar declaring himself as a presidential candidate was cool. As usual he was sneaky and slimy and sneaky and looking less bonkers than he did before. Now he's in control he seems a little bit scary.

Anyway, I enjoyed the episode. Looking forward to more cylon focussed plots.
