Doctor Who - Love And Monsters

A funny, different Doctor Who episode, without too much of the Doctor, or Rose, but excellent none-the-less.

Spoilers ahead...

I predict that this is one of those episodes that the US audience won't get (assuming American stereotypes etc etc). It's a silly, funny, comedy episode notable for its guest stars, the great Marc Warren, the brilliant Shirley Henderson and the always funny Peter Kay.

I laughed a lot in this episode: Marc Warren and the vid blog style narrative, Rose and the Doctor chasing an alien with buckets, LINDA and the scooby gang style get togethers, naming the monster, the Abzorbaloff talking with a Bolton accent, Elton befriending a rampant Jackie, Urlsula ending up as a paving slab, the dodgy sex joke. All highly entertaining.

And then at the very end there was a quite nice emotional note, as Elton remembered his mother dying. I quite liked that.

There were, of course, references to Torchwood (again) and hints that something nasty is going to happen to Rose.

Not sure that the kids will enjoy this one too much, but I loved it. Lots of stuff at the BBC Doctor Who site
