Torchwood - S1E01 - Everything Changes
The first Torchwood episode throws us into the way things are going to be, with rain and murder and aliens. And Captain Jack!

Not much messing about, the first episode starts with the resurrection of a dead man. Immediately the style is nice, trying to be moody, aerial shots of Cardiff (that could become annoying) and of course wit. And there's the promised 'adult' stuff, mainly, in this episode, violence. Even blood! Oh and there was lots of standing on top of tall buildings in Cardiff for some reason.
In fact there's two stand out things. Firstly John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness is wonderful, very charismatic. Secondly the script is very witty, stuff that made me laugh out loud.
The Doctor Who references were kept to a minimum. So Who fans will go 'ahhh', whilst anyone else won't miss out on anything too much.
The plot of the episode is nothing outstanding, a typical 'dragging a new person into an organisation' type plot. But it was nicely executed, the best bits were showing Gwen's normal life, which I guess will be a constant theme.
One thing that struck me was how this will sell around the world. I can imagine some of the US audience not understanding the Welsh accents, let alone the humour.
The episode ended and I wanted more. Luckily the second episode was shown immediately after.
